A few years back, more and more companies and people are talking about the different alternatives to the usual petrol-based fuel. There have been some car manufacturers which have marketed different types of hybrid cars and these changes in the concept of car manufacture are getting different reactions from consumers worldwide. Basically, the idea behind hybrid cars is to lessen the dependence of car owners to the fluctuating cost of gas. With the entry of hybrid cars in the market, car owners are now given more options as how to provide power or fuel up their cars. One hybrid car that is worth looking into and has gotten a lot of attention is the Toyota plug-in hybrid that was released this 2010.
It was announced earlier that Toyota would be releasing the plug-in hybrid model particularly the Prius. This Toyota Prius hybrid car stands out from among the other hybrid vehicle choices of the modern times particularly because its battery is recharged by very simple means; and that is, by plugging it into a regular power outlet. This means that a car owner who wants to save money on the rising cost of gas can initially use ordinary electricity and this is possible with the use of a lithium ion battery pack. The Toyota Prius can go for a few miles before switching to fuel. That can mean more fuel economy for car owners.
It was announced that this year, the famous car manufacturer Toyota will be releasing around 500 Prius plug-in cars later this year. This model from Toyota is an effort to be ahead from the release of other hybrid cars from different manufacturers like Ford, Renault and Mitsubishi. The concept of battery powered vehicles or electric vehicles are very appealing to regular consumers and car owners especially with the unstable fuel supply and the rising cost of gasoline in the past years.
For clarification, the 2010 Toyota Prius will be released to consumers this year but will be equipped with the NiNMH or nickel metal hydride battery and not with a plug but the manufacturer explains further that it would be plug-in ready; meaning, it is designed and engineered to use a lighter and a more energy-dense battery pack made of lithium ion. This means that the Priuses for release can use the traditional NiNMH battery pack and that battery pack can be swapped for the electric only battery that is smaller and more cost efficient.
The creation of the lithium ion battery pack for hybrid cars have made waves during the last months since it can be a more economical choice for car owners and car drivers. It should be clear, though, that most hybrid cars have, for example, the lithium ion battery pack but, at the same time, still is compatible with gasoline. Studies show that you only need to charge the Toyota plug-in hybrid for about 3 hours and then it can already run long range for about 40 miles on a single charge. This quality is similar to that of the Chevy Volt, thus, more and more people are looking forward to the release of these Japanese used cars to wider markets.
Many people are excited with the idea of driving a used Toyota Plug-In Hybrid as Toyota is very vocal about its capacity to be driven with just the use of electricity. However, the charge of the plug-in car is a bit limited before there is a need to change to fuel use. Many say that it is best for city driving where driving long distances is not necessary and the use of the electric battery is enough.
